Vintage gold accented Russian Palekh Oblong Lidded Porcelain Box by Kovalev, “Scarlet Flower”:

This beautiful oblong box might look like lacquerware, but it’s actually ceramic; so not your normal Russian box but would go well with your other lacquerware.  It was created by the famous Palekh artist Alexander Kovalev in 1990 in the USSR (by 1991 the USSR was no more.)  The box is numbered, but I do not have the certificate.  It has different scenes on the lid and two sides from the Russian fairy tale of the Scarlet Flower and is accented with 24k gold.  Piece measures 6” x 2.5” x 2.25”.

It would be a great addition to any box or lacquerware collection.  There is a crack at one end of the box with a repaired chip, a chip on the bottom of the other end, and a partially repaired chip in the lid as the box was dropped.  The crack actually stands out more in the picture then it does to the naked eye and the chips could be painted over, so the piece still displays well.  I have priced it based on the damage.
