Simply mix the dye with water, you may have to wait a few minutes extra for it to fully dissolve. To apply the dye make a wad of cloth by folding a piece several times. Then simply dip the wad into the dye and work into the surface finishing in the direction of the grain. Using this technique it is simple to get a great even finish. This is by far the easiest way of achieving a smooth application of dye of the right intensity. If the dye is too strong add water and vice versa. This way only one coat is needed and it is fairly easy to get to the right colour first time with a little practice. The resultant very thin coat dries very quickly.

The yellow is a typical lemon yellow colour. As these dyes are transparent this will turn more golden over woods such as satin wood. If this effect needs to be reduced the wood can be brightened by a watery coat of white paint. There is a photo of two strips of wood, one with under white painting, shown above.

All non-water based varnishes, oils and sprays are ideal for these dyes.
