The idea for these were to get record shop owners to cut the advert poster out of the magazine and display for customers to pre-order / buy on release and to encourage shop owners / buyers to order the record. Often they featured unique artwork, different to NME, MM, Sounds, etc. Also, as these were printed on magazine paper the images have stayed sharp and the paper has not yellowed or become fragile with age as the normal music papers have. The posters weren't often displayed and the magazines were generally disposed of when the next edition arrived, so these don't often come up for sale.
