Acoustic Guitar Pickguard, 'Tortoloid', dreadnought, antique tortoise
Tortoloid is a handsome new pickguard material developed by luthier
Mario Proulx, using poured resins and dyes to reproduce the look of
actual tortoise shell. Available in a range of classic styles, it has
semi-transparent areas that intensify the colour of the soundboard to
complement your guitar's appearance. Tortoloid will add a vintage touch
to your guitar.
This pickguard is the standard Martin D18/28 shape, and a good fit on most modern dreadnoughts. The 'antique tortoise' design is actually a replica of hawksbill
turtle shell, which is what antique tortoiseshell actually was.
Each Tortoloid pickguard or sheet is individually made. Like natural
shell, no two have exactly the same pattern. The highly durable material
is .025" thin, flexible, and resists shrinkage. It's a little thinner
than the Greven Tor-Tis material, which can be an advantage on some
guitars.
This pre-shaped guard is adhesive backed with 3M 467 transparent film, ready for installation.
