Colonial 9 Denier Coinage 1721-1722
This was a special issue for the Companie Des Indes, and like the 1670 issue, these were “officially” made for the French Colonies in America & Canada. Issued for only 2 years...and not being well accepted, the vast majority were returned to France. Generally the 1721’s are much scarcer than 1722’s (Breen estimates ⅕ of the total surviving population of this series is 1721) and the 1721B being a scarce “key” in the French Regime series. Interesting varieties, especially of the 1722H have been identified by Martin, and others, but we have left it up to the reader/buyer to identify these... Typically found in lower grades, most of the examples listed here are scarce in terms of quality, and the 1721B especially so.
