This is a really dramatic and unusual framed painting - reverse painted on glass, a nineteenth century technique.
I think it is from the 1950s or 60s - no newer than that.
It is quite large. The image area is 15.5" x 19.5". The framed size is 24" x 29".
The subject is a Chinese woman with a pagoda in the background. She and the pagoda are painted like "islands" on a black field.
The entire black background is gold metallic speckles and swirls that look like fireworks. It is really striking!
It has an elaborate frame - antique metallic gold glass trimmed with black edges against the glass. Then outside that a 24 rib, wide black frame that slopes away from the image towards the wall.
This is really an outstanding piece of vintage decor.
There a few dark speckles in the figure but they seem to be they seem to be original to the painting as if they were not they would be clear specks. This painting has a $75.00 packing charge because it is double boxed and custom boxed to protect it in transit.
