Late 1800's Early 1900's Antique Vintage Football Players Wooden Pencil Box

Fantastic late 1800's early 1900's antique, original vintage wooden pencil box measures 7 3/4" wide x 2 1/4" deep x 1 1/2" high and pictures football players from two different teams shown in an action play, wearing union suit style uniforms and flat top helmets, including one with a rare-style built in nose guard. Pictured on the left foreground are Victorian dress wearing spectators, holding pennants, and one man with a mini old style bull horn. The box has a hinged lid. The football player scene is a paper applique that was adhered to the top when produced.

This piece is from my own personal collection of unique, rare and scarce displayable, figural football items. I have been collecting these for close to 30 years, and I always looked for one-of-a-kind, or rarely seen pieces. One only sees this version pencil box offered for sale or at auction once or twice a year. I will be listing most of my displayable vintage, antique football collection over the next year. Please check back from time to time to take a look.

The pencil box is in nice overall condition, with a complete scene on the top. There are striations throughout (not really evident in the listing photos, but they are there. Relatively normal for many of the paper appliques on these vintage pencil boxes), and just a handful of tiny chips at the edges on the paper football applique on the top. The box itself has some edge wear. It does not have the outside part of the lock. The hinges on the back are in tack, with the lid being a bit loose, but intact. There is some writing and marks on the interior and bottom. All in all a nice example of a not often seen early football pencil box. 9.00 shipping in the USA
