1970 Vintage Photo by KEYSTONE PRESS.  On June 8, 1970, 8 Czechoslovaks forced the pilots of a Ilyushin Il-14 Commercial Airplane, who wanted to take off from Carlsbad and fly to Prague, to change the direction and fly to Nuremberg, Germany.  With weapons they threatened the 24 passengers and 3 persons of the crew.  The 8 kidnappers, 4 men and 4 women, who are young workers between the ages of 21 and 25 years old, were interviewed by police officers shortly after the landing: they asked for asylum.  The Airplane flew back to Prague 4 hours after the landing in Nuremberg.  Here shows the Czech Kidnappers.  The police said the armed group, whose ages ranged from 19 to 25 years, had seized control of the aircraft, a Soviet built, two‐engine Ilyushin‐14 of the Czechoslovak national airline C.S.A., two minutes after take‐off from Karlovy Vary for a flight to Prague, 80 miles to the east.
