President Abraham Lincoln Signed 1862 Document Autographed Framed 19" x 23"

Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) Sixteenth President of the United States who led the Union Through the Civil War and emancipated the slaves, assassinated.

 War-date partly-printed D.S. " Abraham Lincoln " as president, 1 page folio, Washington, July 30th, 1862, the appointment of David C. Houston to serve as: " Addition Aide de Camp with the rank of Major". 

Signed in black ink at lower-right, co-signed by Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton and docketed by Brig. General Lorenzo Thomas at top. 

Engrossment and signatures are a tad light, clean folds one of which crosses the top of Lincoln's signature, otherwise very clean and in fine condition, matted in beige and set into a black wood frame. 

David Crawford Houston (d. 1893) was a career army man. In July, 1856 he was commissioned into the U.S. Army 1st Engineers Battalion as a second lieutenant. Throughout the war, he advanced in rank by brevet (Cedar Mountain, Maryland Campaign, Port Hudson) and through regular promotion to the rank of major. He remained in the service until his demise.
