The Golden Age of Aviation just got smaller

No CAA registration required

Engineering in Balsa and Ply. Tony's kits are traditional balsa material, but they are aimed at modelers who like to get their teeth into a 'build'. They are not conventional kits and so don't expect them to be like Dumas or Guillows. If fact sometimes experience of traditional model aircraft can be a handicap. There is a photo manual of what part attaches to what part.

Building on this one is a 3/5

Flying is 5/5

Not for Beginners -

While the building is marked at 3/5 where 5 is most difficult and while the model could be built by someone with a limit experience of building balsa models, flying is 4/5 (which is experienced flyer with flying time on aerobatic low wing aircraft.1/5 is Beginner, 2/5 Novice Flyer 3/ 5 Experienced Flyer, 4/ 5 Experience in Low Wing Types, 5/5 Difficult to fly Bicycle Clip Rating.)

The model is so realistic and a pleasure to build it can be built as a static model, this sort of model looks great in a Baby's Bedroom as a 'posh' mobile. Its so light it moves in the air currents of the house which can be quite hypnotic to watch.

Amazing….

The model includes an 8.5mm Brushed Motor with matched Prop and Gear Box. Note the motor is a tight fit in the gear box and warming the gearbox housing in very hot water ( be careful not to get burned) the case can become easier to fit the motor, when the heat goes it is tight around the motor. Its our tip to avoid bent prop shafts. Never press the motor in by the shaft. But hey? you knew that anyway. Broken motors from incorrect assembly are not a warranty claim.

Have fun, building and flying this model. Note although it comes with the Motor and Prop there is no R/C. Its good at using donor RC from ParkZone and E Flite or similar models. We would advise to buy the kit, study the options, and follow the instructions. Contact details supplied after purchase we can’t before as its against eBay rule.

Overview

The Boeing P-26 "Peashooter" was the first American production all-metal fighter aircraft and the first pursuit monoplane to enter squadron service with the United States Army Air Corps. Designed and built by Boeing, the prototype first flew in 1932, and the type was still in use with the U.S. Army Air Corps as late as 1941 in the Philippines. There are two surviving Peashooters, but there are three reproductions on display with two more under construction.

The project funded by Boeing to produce the Boeing Model 248 began in September 1931, with the US Army Air Corps supplying the engines and the instruments. The open cockpit, fixed landing gear, externally braced wing design was the last such design procured by the USAAC as a fighter. The Model 248 had a high landing speed, which caused a number of accidents. To remedy this, flaps were fitted to reduce the landing speed. The Army Air Corps ordered three prototypes, designated XP-936, which first flew on 20 March 1932.

The "Peashooter", as it was known by service pilots, was faster than previous American combat aircraft. Nonetheless, rapid progress in aviation led to it quickly becoming an anachronism, with wire-braced wings, fixed landing gear and an open cockpit. The cantilever-wing Dewoitine D.500 flew the same year as the P-26 and two years afterwards the Soviet I-16 was flying with retractable landing gear. By 1935, just three years after the P-26, the Curtiss P-36, Messerschmitt Bf 109 and Hawker Hurricane were all flying with enclosed cockpits, retractable landing gear and cantilever wings. However, some P-26s remained in service until after the United States entered World War II in December 1941.
