BSP stands for "British Standard Pipe". These sizes are a bit confusing as they are based on the nominal INSIDE bore of the pipe NOT the outside diameter of the pipe. Therefore a 1.1/2" BSP pipe has an internal bore of about 38mm but an outside diameter of about 48mm.
