In North America, Santa Claus became a secular symbol of the Christmas season during the 19^th century. The image of Santa we all know today, that of an older man with a white beard, white hair, and a portly belly, originated in the mid-19^th century and is now closely associated with the holiday celebration.

Santa Claus is featured in the obverse design of 2021 Merry Christmas Santa Silver Rounds. In this jolly depiction, Santa is featured in the foreground with his spectacles sliding down his nose as he looks at you with a small smile on his face. He is wearing his traditional jack and hat with fluffy cuffs. Slung over Santas shoulder, you will find a sack full of toys that include a train, doll, bear, horse, drum, and even a candy cane. There is also a seasonal greeting on this side.

The reverse face includes the image of one large snowflake in the center of the design field. That flake is accompanied by a variety of other snowflakes. Around the outer rim of the design field is a border of holly, a staple plant of the holiday season. There is an inscription along the top that reads One Troy Ounce .999 Fine Silver.
