About Gemstone.

Monarch sterling opal chatoyant gemstones are synthetic opals but created in a highly specialized design and technique. Its trademark is the abundance of colors and the black lines running through the stone. These opals are truly magical. They reflect and refract light at every angle.

Monarch Opals are GIA certified synthetic opals, having all of the same physical and chemical properties as natural opal. Each stone takes about a year to grow in an Arizona lab, without colorants or dyes. They are made using nano particles of silica dioxide (the same way a natural, mined opal is made in the earth). Under a microscope, GIA confirms that these opals have the same characteristics and composition of a natural opal, making it a true, GIA certified synthetic opal. The process itself is natural and the color you see in the stone is from light refraction. The matrix is a nod to turquoise and the two together are magic. Each stone is uniquely beautiful. Even within one pair of earrings, no two stones are the same. Each is truly unique and one of a kind.

To be accurate, this Opal is actually called Sterling Opal. The names above such as Monarch Opal are trade names given to the different varieties of Opal that they can create. The Monarch Opal is created by the same man that developed the Zachery Process for Turquoise. His name is Jim Zachery. The potch lines are black and are random like a natural opal, and some patterns are like snake or honeycomb pattern that is in Ethiopian opal. The moulds are 40 mm in size for the mixture to grow in.
