There is nothing in the written records of Headquarters, Army Ground Forces, to indicate that the command, as such, was consulted regarding the formation of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps at the time of its inception, by congressional action, in May of 1942. When the First Women's Army Auxiliary Corps Training Canter was activated in July of 1942 at Fort Des Moines, Iowa, training personnel, both officer and enlisted, was furnished by ground forces installations, as directed by the War Department. Other than routine administration correspondence concerning this transfer of personnel, there was no recorded commit regarding plans for training or utilization of such personnel within the command.
