EUROPEAN VICTORY by JOHN D'ARCY-DAWSON, WAR CORRESPONDENT WITH THE BRITISH AND AMERICAN FORCES
LONDON : MACDONALD : c1946 (UNDATED)

FOREWORD  ...   The battle of Normandy followed by the rush through the occupied countries into Germany was fascinating. I have not attempted to describe every phase of our fight to victory but have concentrated on those events which I have seen. The battle was on such a tremendous scale that for a War Correspondent whose duty lay with the forward troops to describe the plans of the Supreme Command in detail would be impossible. For the greater part of the time I was with the Second British Army, and at odd times I visited the Canadians and the Americans. Primarily this is a book about the heroism of British troops, although I have digressed from time to time into French and Belgian politics and the lighter side of war. During my life I have seen a great deal of war and death, and I am sick of them both. Always, however, I have admired the spirit and the courage of the men who fought the battles that brought victory.
