Up for sale is this unique Antique Ornate Copper or Brass Plateau Round Floral Footed Tray with Beveled Mirror.  It is unique because while many trays were made of silver or silver plated, this one appears to be made of either copper or brass.  We are not sure.  We also don't know if this was at one time a silver plated plateau from which all the silvering has worn off, but since we bought it +35 years ago, there was no evidence of silvering on it.   We simply have not seen many of this type of metal.  The three feet on which the tray stands are of a dark grey metal, of unknown type.  Even more interesting, is that when taking it apart to clean it, underneath the back of the mirror were the pictured cardboard cut-outs of a poster advertisement for Arrow Collars.  Those cut-outs are a part of the mirror backing.  The ads would have probably circulated around the early part of the 20th century.  Is this how old the tray is?  We don't know.    One could reasonably conclude that around that time, the mirror stand needed repairing and the owners used the materials at hand to make the repairs.  That, however, is also a guess.  What we do know is that the mirrored tray measures 10" in diameter and stands approximately 1 1/2" high.  The beveled mirror has some silvering missing on one side, which sort of disappears into the ornate floral metal work holding the mirror down.  It also has some scratches and evidence of wear expected in a piece this old.  Overall, a very interesting piece and one that would look great as a decoration.  We are downsizing and this is one item that has to go.
