Very Rare, Portmeirion Velocipedes, Drum Shape, TeaPot.

This is a nice display piece, I wouldn't recommend using it for hot tea because of its age (Any items of Portmeirion Pottery made before the 1990s does not react well to heat or dishwashing.)

Small chip on the end of the spout and general, clean 'crazing'.

In the early 1970's Portmeirion Pottery decorated 'shape seconds' (Wares which had a slight manufacturing error but are still of sailabile quality) with remaining transfers from discontinued designs.

The 'Drum Shape' was designed by Susan Williams-Ellis as robust 'Hotel Ware', it was also used as the basis of Susan's Merridion range and later Botanic Garden.

As this teapot was designed to be sold as a 'Second', it does not have a backstamp. (Seconds items with a fault in their decoration 'decorated seconds' are marked by having a scratch through the backstamp made with a diamond point.)

Made by Portmeirion from 1967, one of the retro design to fulfil the 1960's demand for 'Victoriana'. The designs were originally copied from Illustration in Strand Magazine but when these were exhausted Susan Williams-Ellis and John Cuffley created their own more theatrical designs. Eve Midwinter also worked with John Cuffley on Velocipedes, but that's another story...

I'm selling other from this set and will be happy to combine that postage if you buy more than one item.
