Site of the " Great Raft " , Louisiana

( The Great Raft was a gigantic log jam or series of "rafts" that clogged the Red and Atchafalaya Rivers in Louisiana. It was unique in North America in terms of its enormous scale, spanning some 160 miles by the 1830s. It was removed in the 1830s, though a second Great Raft began to form almost immediately, which extended as far north as the Arkansas line. The second Great Raft was removed in 1873, after this 1852 map was printed )
