Very important, so please note:

If the fluid is old, dirty or dried up, then it must be  removed before a fresh charge of Silicone Oil can be applied! The use of lighter fuel and cotton buds is recommended to clean and remove the old fluid. Before attempting to remove the tank, it is a good idea to first empty the tank of the remaining old fluid. An empty leur-loc syringe and blunt needle have been provided with the kit to aid in this process. Turn and "lock" the blunt needle to the empty syringe. Then suck out as much of the old fluid from the tank as possible and repeat until tank is empty. It is very important that absolutely no silicone oil drips on to the bearing underneath the tank!!!

Only the narrow and  bottom part of the tank should be filled (see photo 3)  and be very careful not to spill any silicone oil outside of the reservoir. Only inject a little of the damping fluid at a time and always draw the syringe plunger back each time so as to suck back the silicone oil in the nozzle so as to avoid dripping or spillage! Any spillage must be cleaned off immediately with lighter fuel.

The relevant parts of the manual have been reproduced in the photos to serve as an aid and to buyers. According to various remarks on audio forums, best results are obtained by using the Low Viscosity 60000cSt or 100000cSt (both viscosities have been recommended by SME) for the Series III, IV and V as well as 200000 cSt silicone oil for the 3009/3012 and Series II. But personal preference and also the cartridge used may dictate that no damping gives a more acceptable response! It is not at all unusual to have completely different opinions when it comes to hifi but fortunately it is a hobby where one can choose to disregard the rest!

Approximately 2ml in each syringe, silicone oil to be used for smooth tonearm movement and improvement in performance. After years of use the original fluid has dried up or dust and dirt are causing the fluid to become more frictional. Cleaning and applying fresh fluid is advisable to see if the problem can be resolved. For comparisons sake, 200k cSt has more or less the consistency of honey and 1 cSt is the viscosity of water and the analogy here is like dropping a spoon in a glass of water or a pot of honey.....the spoon takes a long time to sink to the bottom in honey! Unless you are a repair shop, all you need are 2ml and not the whole big bottle. Therefore, I am selling off my surplus stock in an easy to apply syringe (a needle is not required nor convenient ) and small quantities that an enthusiast would need! For  200K, 300K (for a more slower drop or certain models of DUAL turntables)  and 500K (for heavy tonearms)  Silicone Oil, please look at my other similar items for sale!
