Hi There

Before bidding on, or buying any item from me, please check my feedback and bid/buy with the utmost confidence.

My dad was in the merchant navy as a chief engineer from around 1952 to 1966. I have come across a tin full of old coins from all over the world. I am going to slowly go through them and put some up for sale.

My dad was 22 and my mum was 17 when this coin was minted.

From what I can gather this coin was only minted in 1951 and 1952.

On offer here is a 1952 1d (1 penny) South African coin, the details of which follows.

Reverse side.

Bare head of George VI left.

Script: Latin

Lettering:
GEORGIVS SEXTVS REX

The ship, 'Dromedaris', sailing to right, legend in English and Afrikaans either side, with date above and denomination below

As a footnote, the ship Dromedaris is one of the three vessels which brought Jan van Riebeeck and his group of settlers to South Africa from Holland in 1652 in order to establish a refreshment station on behalf of the Dutch East India Company.

Please have a good look at the 2 photo before buying, as this shows the condition of the coin. I took the photos without flash, in natural light.
