The Vitra Design Museum houses more than 7,000 pieces of original furniture and lighting, making it one of the world's finest collections of chairs.
The Frank O. Gehry-designed building that was intended to house these chairs in 1989 became a temporary exhibition facility and now houses them in the Vitra Schaudepot (designed by Herzog & de Meuron), which opened in 2016.
The 224 chairs are selected from the collection.
All are from the collection of the Vitra Design Museum and are filled with chairs from the late 19th to the 21st century, from rare and valuable pieces to the latest designs.
