Genuine antique plan of Canterbury, dated 1800.

Edward Hasted published his History and Topographical Survey of Kent illustrating largely by maps drawn by Jon Andrews 28 years  before this work was published in 1797. Andrews' 25 maps were engraved by Drury and Bayly engraved an extra series for Hasted which included a city plan of Canterbury.
That plan numbered a large number of places in the city yet there was no numerical key that corresponded. In 1801 Hasted issued a revised edition in which the Canterbury plan was finished with the key to 71 places as you see on the pics. Incorporating that involved some other alteration to the vignettes to make space. So the 2 plans are quite different - this one is more rare.

Image area: Quite a large map at 385x300mm plus broad margins.

Several original folds to fit into a quarto size volume. Bottom margin reinforced as binding method cut this away - unnoticeable when mounted for framing.

Will be sent in a strong postal tube.
