This step was patented before our country was a country. At that time Great Britain was the only English speaking country that patented items! The first patent in America was in 1790. No cracks or breaks. There are remnants of green and red paint on the underside. I have seen quite a few newer similar renditions of this style. It looks like this is the one that was copied from the beginning. None with the quality of this piece. It is 3 1/2 inches wide and 6 5/8 inches long. In the process of cleaning it up to sell, I discovered the inscriptions on it. I had no idea that it was so old. We have owned it for about 30 years. Good used condition.
