This is for top quality, certified and fully plant passported Potted Purple Beech (Fagus Sylvatica Atropunicea)

Purple Beech is a wonderful choice for a hedge. With large dark purple and deep green leaves in Spring and Summer turning to a rich copper in Autumn, they offer privacy and reduce noise.

Purple Beech keeps its leaves on the plant over winter and we refer to it as semi-evergreen. It is non thorny and wildlife friendly – providing great habitat for birds and insects.

Purple Beech will grow up to 30cm per year and can be trimmed into a nice tight hedge – we recommend you trim once a year in Autumn to keep the foliage dense.

Pot grown Purple Beech are slightly more expensive than bare root plants but are available all year round. In addition, since they come with a pot full of active roots they are ready to start growing in height and thickness from the moment you plant them so they can be a bit quicker to establish than bare root.

All you need to do is simply choose the height of the plants you want to plant now and the number of plants you need.

We recommend 5 plants per metre in a double zig-zag row for a thick hedge, but you can get away with 3-4 per metre in a staggered row if you don’t mind waiting an extra year or two to form a thick hedge.

For best results plant with Rootgrow gel – it increases the growth rate by up to 50% and really helps the plants establish.

Keep them well watered – especially in the Spring and Summer in the first year of planting.
