Issued around 1979 by Len Hill, the owner of two of the islands at that time, each depicting a different species of Penguin
He used the banknotes to raise awareness and to finance his conservation activities. The notes consist of five denominations, in ascending size and different colours.
After Hill's death the islands continued as nature reserves and are home to many important breeding colonies.
