Dragon Armor M4A3E8(76)W HVSS Sherman,
Very Rare
No. 60298, Vintage year - 2007, Scale - 1:72
Unit - 35th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division - called unofficially
the "Breakthrough" Division, the 4th Armored raced into Belgium
(spearheading for Patton's Third Army) in a 150-mile march that took less than
20 hours. The 4th armored assaulted the German's "bulge" in an effort
to relieve the 101st Airborne Division that was besieged in Bastogne from 22-26
December. The first Sherman crossed the last few hundred meters of the
Arlon-Bastogne highway and relieved defenders on Dec. 26th. Interestingly, it
was with the 37th Armored Battalion (not the 35th) so maybe a small error here
by the manufacturers. After the Bulge, the Division advanced to the Moselle
River and east to Worms and across the Rhine on 24-25 March 1945. It liberated
Lauterback, Creuzberg, Gotha and was across the Saale River by April 12th.
Campaign - Bastogne -1945 - during the Bulge, the 4th was commanded by Major
General Hugh Gaffey and by General Patton after General John Shirley Wood was
ordered back to the U.S. One of its famous leaders was Creighton Abrams, who
commanded the 37th Tank Battalion.
Markings - olive drab with blacked out star on turret and white star on hull.
The star was blackened to present a less obvious target for the Germans. Model
has two machine guns on the top turret. Model has very detailed wheels (HVSS) compared
to other Dragon Sherman diecasts.
Condition - new with minor wear on box. Original sale sticker on outer plastic box.
