What is an Australian Price Variant?
Australian Price Variants (APV) are Marvel US First Run Printed Books that were produced in the USA but exclusivly released on Newsstands in Australia over 2 specific time periods in the 1990’s. They are identical to the US release books except that the price is in $AUS and the first batch run also had different month printed on the cover.
Great!…..What does that mean?
Aimed at a specific market, APV’s were printed in extremely low print runs. ( 1-2 thousand) - available only direct from Marvel US to Australian Retailers. All unsold copies were pulped as per the normal procedure of the day. So not only are these books rare, but it's virtually impossible to find high grade copies as very few specialised Comic Book Retailers stocked themfor collectors. it is only fairly recently that they have been recognised as Price Variants by CBCS, CGC & Overstreet.
