1948 "Help Ludwigshafen" 

An explosion in the BASF plant in Ludwigshafen (Rheinland-Pfalz) on 28 July 1948 killed 207 people, injured 3818, and 3122 buildings were significantly affected. The material damage to the BASF plant alone amounted to 80 million DM, representing in today's currency 241 million euro.

The French occupation authorities issued this set of semi-postals on 18th October 1948 to raise funds to aid those affected.

The stamps depict St Martin and St Christopher.
