Listed is a brand new LG WH16NS40 drive flashed to UHD Official WH16NS60 firmware Version 1.02; along with a Vantec NexStar DX aluminum external enclosure, making this a UHD Friendly UNLOCKED 4k capable external drive that you can use with any computer, desktop or laptop, even if you don't have a 5.25" drive bay available. Flashing the drive to this particular firmware version has a few benefits...

First off it ups the write speed from 14x to 16x.

And ups the read speed to the maximum possible 8x.

Second, the flashed firmware is a UHD Official firmware, which allows the drive to decrypt and read 4K Blu-Ray discs, including 3D Blu-Ray and BDXL/BDXL-R discs. Something these drives absolutely CANNOT do without being flashed.

This drive is flashed to WH16NS60 v1.02 for those who prefer that particular version for any reason. This version does not fix the sleep glitch like v1.00 does, but some prefer it for compatibility or stability depending on their system. I have this exact setup with firmware v1.00 available in my store as well if you'd prefer that version.

I have tested this enclosure with multiple different UHD discs and can confirm it's capable of hitting the full 8x read speed that this drive achieves in the internal configuration it's designed for; provided you use a USB 3.0 port as recommended. This listing comes with all of the original cables and documentation that come with the external enclosure, along with the flashed drive itself preinstalled into it.

Having a UHD Friendly drive doesn't mean you can automatically play 4k discs, it just means your disc drive won't be the limiting factor in your system anymore. In addition to this drive, you will need software like MakeMKV (My preferred and recommended software), KMPlayer, Etc. Tested and Guaranteed to work! The Second photo is the firmware version of this drive, proving it is the WH16NS60 v1.02 like promised. The third picture proves the drive works and can read UHD discs, as standard Blu-Ray discs top out at 50GB. And the fourth picture shows it working in makeMKV and its LibreDrive status. These drives are opened up once, installed into the enclosure in order to flash them, used to rip one disc to test and make sure they function as needed, and then placed back into the packaging.

The enclosure will arrive in it's original packaging, but the drive itself will arrive preinstalled and not in it's factory packaging to save shopping costs, which I can pass on to you as savings. Because of this I can offer this drive and enclosure at the cheapest price on eBay. Unlike all of my listings for internal drives, this does not come with a sata cable or additional mounting screws, as they are unnecessary with this external configuration and the enclosure comes with its own mourning screws, but if you would like a sata cable anyway just in case you want to use the drive internally, send me a message after purchase and I will include one free of charge!
