Guan Zeju was born in 1941 in Yangjiang, Guangdong Province (China). He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Guangzhou Arts Academy, and continued his studies there in 1978. Guan made his way to America and became a celebrated painter of the ballet, which culminated in the release of the book GUAN ZEJU, Selected Ballet Paintings, in 2000.

His paintings are the best example of realistic technique and he has successfully portrayed the beauty of Chinese girls in his paintings. After reaching America, Guan painted several ballet series which made him a popular artist in US. The way he deals with light and shadow in the ballet paintings are notable and masterful. He currently resides in the United States where he works as a studio artist. He is also a member of the American Society of Portrait Artists and has been awarded the distinction of Honorary Overseas Artist by the Guangdong Art Institute.
