This beautiful semi-postal set was issued on 28th October 1946. It depicts famous French personalities of the fifteenth century. The surcharge was to aid the National Relief Fund (Secours nationale).
The stamps depict:
- François Villon (1431 to 1463), poet
- Jean Fouquet (c. 1420-1480), painter
- Philippe de Commynes (1447-1511), historian
- Jeanne d'Arc, the Maid of Orléans (1412-1431)
- Jean Gerson (1363-1429), theologian
- Charles VII (1403-1461), King of France
