Cool Vintage Television Studio 'GIANO'
FRESNEL SPOTLIGHT/SOFTLIGHT

Complete with with BARNDOORS

Made in Italy

Circa 1990.

10 AVAILABLE AT THIS ABSOLUTE BARGAIN PRICE!!

Originally installed in one of the smaller Tv Stages at Pinewood Film Studios

Comes complete with the industry standard toughed Fresnel glass lens
and a set of folding 4-leaf barndoors and a metal 'Egg-Crate' style Louvre
for the Soft-Box side of the light which slides in or out depending if required.

The light is able to be used in a lighting stand. However this model was designed
to be able to operate from the lighting grid above using a series of rotating cups which
allow the user to pan and tilt and also flood and spot by inserting a pole with a hook into
the rotating cups. Such a practical design and one that is still in use in studios today.

White cup - controls the Tilt
Blue cup - controls the Pan
Green cup - controls the Flood / Spot

So you have the Fresnel Spot-light on one side and by spinning the lamp around you
have the Soft-box on the other side - a genius design.

The softxbox side of the light has some of the original bulbs still installed.

[please note: no lamps are included for the spot-light part of the lights, but easy to wire
up a domestic bulb for the inside and Hey Presto!

The stand is also not included and is to merely to show you what the light would look like
when mounted, but lighting stands are readily available on ebay, or if you with to suspend
the lamp in the air we can help and advise what clamp you would require in order to do so
and will be happy to introduce you to the company that supplies them.

The lens and barndoors could also be re-purposed onto other lights and are worth alone
more than we are asking for the entire light.

[here's some information from the original Rank Strand sales brochure]

In one mode, Giano is a conventional focusing Fresnel but by rotating the luminaire to the opposite
end a soft even fill light is obtained. This is achieved by using a twin filament 2.5/5kW tungsten halogen
lamp for the Key-light and four I 250W tungsten halogen lamps for the Soft-light. It is possible to switch from
full to half power in either mode thereby reducing the intensity by 50% without change of colour temperature.
Meeting the two major lighting requirements of television in one dual-purpose luminaire, Giano provides the
fiexibil1ty to enable the majority of lights in a studio to remain permanently rigged with their mode changed for
each production. Supplied with 4 metres of power cable, 'Spot' side complete with 4 leaf rotating barndoor,
colour frame and wire guard.
