Hey,

This pot was made by The Yamaaki kiln. It’s a great old kiln that made pots for decades but stopped in 2010. The kiln is now cold. They made great pots for the price and the shapes/sizes/quality was really bar none. That’s why they were so successful. They continue to rise in value even with so many in circulation.

This specific pot was made by the founder of the Yamaaki kiln, Shousen. He died in 1990 and coined this look which is now appreciated world wide. 20 years ago when I first started selling Japanese pots, these were plentiful and much less expensive. Now I can hardly find them for sale and the prices have gone up so much due to rarity and demand. This is the first I’ve gotten in probably 6 months or more. I sold hundreds and now the quantity is so low, so sorry about the price. It’s the going rate these days. Oh, and they never have a good ring to them due to the worm eaten style in which they are made. But they’ll outlive us for sure.

Beautiful deep cuts on this one.

Thanks,

Matt Ouwinga
