Finephoto is pleased to offer an authentic (NOT a modern reprint) 1980 glossy Kromekote Photo Engraving by the renowned American photographer Irving Penn. The
outstanding
print quality and extraordinary detail make this vintage
"Kromekote" plate an eye popping addition to any collection or interior design. Only under magnification does the distinctive
and high quality photo-mechanical process become evident. The plate is
printed on high gloss Kromekote paper with a special six color process
(as opposed to the usual four color process). "Komekrote" is an
expensive and exclusive
print surface typically reserved for projects calling for
the very highest in print quality and detail. This plate was pressed with high quality
offset, the likes of which are not often seen in offset lithography. The piece has been professionally dry mounted with archival materials by Fine Photo Galleries and ready for a standard 14 x 11 inch frame. It is
a striking image which will frame and display beautifully.
ABOUT IRVING PENN: Best known for his fashion photography, Irving Penn's repertoire also includes portraits of creative greats; ethnographic photographs from around the world; Modernist still lifes of food, bones, bottles, metal, found objects and of course flowers. He also travelled extensively and produced photographic travel essays. Penn was among the first photographers to pose subjects against a simple gray or white backdrop and he effectively used this simplicity. Expanding his austere studio surroundings, Penn constructed a set of upright angled backdrops, to form a stark, acute corner. Subjects photographed with this technique included Martha Graham, Marcel Duchamp, Pablo Picasso, Georgia O'Keeffe, W. H. Auden, and Igor Stravinsky. Penn's still life compositions are spare and highly organized, assemblages that articulate the abstract interplay of line and volume. Penn's photographs are composed with a great attention to detail, which is particularly evident in these spectacular flower compositions.
This vintage photo engraving is guaranteed to be authentic and comes with a hand signed
