I offer for your consideration this amazing Historical (circa 1898) Photograph of Cheyenne Chief, Wolf Robe or Ho'néhevotoomáhe. By Frank A. Rinehart on Wooden Plaque ready for your collection.

Chief Wolf Robe was a Southern Cheyenne chief and a holder of the Benjamin Harrison Peace Medal, which he is wearing in the photo. During the late 1870s he was forced to leave the open plains and relocate his tribe on to the Cheyenne and Arapaho Indian Reservation in Indian Territory.

I am not an expert but my limited research would suggest this to be a Cabinet Card. This exceptionally rare and wonderful, Western Americana Image measures 4” by 6” and the plaque measures 10” by 8”. It is titled on the left bottom with a labeled on the back of the plaque describing the picture.

About the artist;

Frank A. Rinehart the photographer was an American artist famous for his photographs, drawings and paintings depicting native Americans. Rinehart's portraits are especially impressive as a departure from earlier, less sensitive photographs of Native Americans. Instead of being detached, ethnographic records, the Rinehart photographs are portraits of individuals with an emphasis on strength of expression. While Rinehart was not the first photographers to portray Indian subjects with such dignity, this large body of work which was widely seen and distributed may have had an important influence in changing history.
