grewia flavescens is a small shrub native from africa to india. it has attractive yellow flowers followed by edible berries. the berries need to be collected when they turn orange brown and before totally dry to obtain the best flavour. it is one of the tasty species in the genus. similar to more famous phalsa, g. flavescens has pleasant sweet and acid flavour with hint of date and hawthorn. very easy to grow, mature plant is drought and frost hardy. can be grown as hedge or screen.
