A Superb Antique Solid Silver, Victorian, Old English Hanoverian Pattern Dessert or Dinner Fork, by Mappin & Webb, Assay Hallmarked Sheffield 1898.

This fork is in excellent near mint condition for its 125 years of age and usage, with visually no wear to the tips of the tines, and with good clear hallmarking. There is a family armorial of a Griffin on the top of the stem. This fork is No. 2 in a matching set of three.
 A great collectors item, or would make a lovely wedding, christening or birthday present. 
The fork is 7-1/4" (18.3 cm) in length, and the silver weight is: 45g.

These forks are often referred to as dinner, or dessert forks, as that was their designated usage in the 18th & 19th century, whereas nowadays we just use them to eat our dinner etc. please refer to the dimensions given above.

PS Silver is very difficult to photograph because it's reflection picks up the photographer, hence any tinging. Also, these items are not new, most are over 100 years old, some 200 and over, so may have some defects, unless they had a charmed life.
