Here's a vintage Associated Press (AP) Wirephoto from 1960 showing the Navy's USS Sargo nuclear submarine at Pearl Harbor after a trip to the North Pole.

This is not a reproduction or reprint but rather is an original AP wire photo printed in 1960 and from the archives of the Dallas Morning News. This measures 8" by 10". This has a some curl to it but it would flatten out nicely if you put it between a couple books for a few days or if you framed it. This just has some very minor handling wear and a small surface crease up by the helicopter with nice gloss to it.

What is a wire photo?

Here's a quick explanation...a press photographer took a photo and made an original print from the negative and typed up a caption that was then affixed to the border of the photo. Then that captioned photo was inserted into a special machine and transmitted to newspaper offices around the world. By the 1970s, new technology led to wire photos being phased out and by now many of these original wire photos have been scanned in and destroyed, so these are cool pieces of history!

Shipping is $4.95. We have several other vintage AP wirephotos of related to JFK, the military and other events from 1960 available and are always happy to combine shipping.
