Micromosaic Pendant Pearl Locket Necklace Birds Italy

For your consideration; this stunning antique micromosaic festoon pendant locket necklace. The micromosaic in this excellent of condition. Measures roughly 62 mm long from top of the bail to the longest center freshwater pearl drop. 31 mm wide. Locket opening in the back is roughly 30 mm x 24 mm wide with glass intact. I have replaced the missing original drops with three plump genuine freshwater pearls with 14K gold filled wire. I have cut a small piece of acid-free paper to fit inside the locket. You can replace it with whatever treasure you'd like. Locket black and glass fit snug and securely. Bail opening is roughly 4 mm wide, as to accommodate your favorite chain. There is minimal to no tesserae loss in the mosaics that I can detect (the tiny handmade glass tile pieces). Tests silver, unmarked, likely .800 silver, the standard of the time. It has a gold gilt appearance which is not uncommon for uncleaned 800 silver. Please zoom and inspect all photos for additional details and condition for they are all part of the description. This listing is for the one described pearl locket only. The other locket pictured is available in a separate listing. Chain not included.

A brief history of micro mosaic jewelry:
Micro mosaic jewelry became popular during the European Grand Tour period (17th-19th Century). Members of wealthy families would travel around Europe taking in the sights and cultures of several different countries. Italy was a very popular tourist spot as it had a long and prestigious history in arts and culture - a favorite subject in aristocratic circles. It was also a famous glass producer, and Italian craftsmen quickly turned their glass making skills to making stunning miniature micro mosaic pictures for their rich visitors. Flowers, birds and architecture were a very popular subjects. Each piece of tesserae (little hand-pulled glass tiles) was hand cut by the artist and painstakingly set in place. No two micro mosaic pieces are the same. You are buying a little piece of history that is truly a one of a kind.
