2011-2012 Proof Like ( Brilliant Uncirculated) Set -- 7  coins

Pristine quality!!!  Buy your set from us--you won't find a nicer set

Each year the Royal Canadian mint puts out prooflike or brilliant uncirculated sets.  This 6 coin set is a special set of uncirculated loonies and toonies that are a showcase for the changing technologies that RCM uses in its ever-evolving coin production.

The Royal Canadian Mint stands at the technological forefront in the realm of visual, electromagnetic, and plating processes designed to heighten the security, durability, and economy of circulation coins. This unique set features test tokens for Canada’s new $1 and $2 circulation coins that were used by suppliers in various automated coin acceptance industries to calibrate and update their equipment.

The $1 and $2 security test tokens were produced using the Royal Canadian Mint’s patented multi-ply plating technology. The $1 coin in this set is composed of multi-ply brass plated steel and features the familiar 11-sided shape and well-known Loon design by Robert-Ralph Carmichael. This version, however, presents the new security feature offered on the circulation coin: a single laser mark of a maple leaf positioned just above the Loon design on the coin’s reverse side. This laser mark was produced during the striking of the coin using a contrasting pattern micro-engraved on the coin die itself. The bicoloured $2 coin composed of a multi-ply brass-plated aluminum bronze insert within a multi-ply nickel- plated steel outer ring features Brent Townsend’s polar bear image, which has been featured on the circulation $2 coin in most years since the coin’s introduction in 1996. It also offers three new security features. The first is a set of two laser marks of maple leaves, like the one on the new $1 coin, at the bottom of the outer ring. The second is a unique hologram-like virtual image of two maple leaves at the top of the outer ring. These images change as the coin is turned from side to side. This virtual image was produced by engraving different patterns on each side of two-sided grooves on the face of the coin. The third feature is the addition of engraved edge-lettering the words 'CANADA' and '2 DOLLARS' along the coin's outer edge.

Special Features:
- Approximately one million test tokens of each denomination were produced using the RCM’s patented multi-ply plating technology with the new visual security features. The mintage of the set is limited to 25,000; the remaining test tokens have been recycled or archived at the Royal Canadian Mint.
- Test tokens are indicated by the letters “T” and “É” (Test/ Épreuve)
- These tokens were distributed to, and used by suppliers from the automated coin acceptance industries including vending, parking, transit and retail among others, to update and calibrate their equipment so that they would be able to read and accept the new coin. Automated coin acceptance machines are calibrated to the new tokens based on the new electromagnetic signature and weight difference for the introduction of the new circulation coins.
- Following the calibration exercise, the tokens were sent back to the Mint. The test tokens contained in this set were part of a master set of the original tokens.
- In addition to the first tokens, this set contains the 2011 uncirculated versions of the coins, without the security features and the new 2012 coins with the security features for easy comparison.
