We present a charming landscape study in watercolours, across a lake to a farmstead in summer, inscribed (beneath the matte) by the Northamptonshire artist C. Stephenson-Mole (British, active c1970 – 1990s): ‘From the trout fisheries to Wally Watts’. C. Stephenson-Mole was a prolific painter of landscapes, working in oils and watercolours. He is known, largely, for his paintings of churches and Northamptonshire villages, laying claim to having painted all the churches in the county. Originally from the north of England, where he practised his skills as a street artist selling off easel, Stephenson-Mole moved to Northampton in the 1970s and began earning commissions. Collectively, his paintings have become regarded as an urban and rural history of the county of Northamptonshire. Several examples of Stephenson-Mole’s work can be found in the national collection (look at BBC Your Paintings’ website or UKArt), including Northampton Museum and Art Gallery; also, on mutualart.com, arcadia.com, askart.com besides the websites of several rural to middle-England auction houses. Presented in excellent condition in its original frame, this painting will look fabulous displayed.
