The poster was never folded. There is some marker writing and cross out at lower right corner (see enlarged image above). Someone wrote a happy birthday message in 1972, then covered most of it up. Otherwise the image area of the poster is in beautiful shape. There are no folds, ripples, creases, tears, or paper loss. 

Important Added Info: Note that this is a rare Japanese "B1" poster that measures 29" x 40". "B1" posters are FAR more rare than "B2" posters (which measure approximately 20" x 28 1/2"), and because they are larger (similar in size to a U.S. one-sheet), they are more impressive when displayed, and more sought after. In addition, this black and white version of this film is much harder to come by than the color versions. This version is currently being offered at Sotheby's for $2750, and there is another copy for sale on Ebay right now asking $1250. With the issue of the writing in the lower right corner, I have cut the price to reflect that. If you wanted to have it linen backed, they could cover the writing up very easily, or you could use a matte to cover that when framing. I personally don't think it detracts from the poster, but I know it would bother some.
