Antique Leather Double Quick Release Coursing Slip Leads - Greyhound / Whippet​

This is an antique double quick-release coursing slip lead, used on greyhounds, lurchers and whippets.

The lead has a treen handle and wrist strap, attached to a cord that runs down the lead and attaches to the quick-release system which releases both collars.

This was used to restrain the coursing greyhounds by the slipper; once the hare passed the shy on the coursing field it was given 100 yards ‘law’ (headstart) before the hounds were slipped simultaneously. The object being to turn the hare to achieve points, not to kill it.
