Prototypical Mid-Century Industrial styling and color

This listing is for a 1948 Remington Deluxe Model 5 portable manual typewriter in the original wood case (serial # B1707831). The typewriter has been fully serviced and all functions work properly.

This typewriter is from my personal collection of rare and/or exceptional typewriters. In this case, this machine is rare due to both it's color (dark gray with two-tone B/W keys) and it's condition, which is exceptional inside and out! This Model 5 is more commonly found in mat black finish and is the only dark gray (gunmetal) example I've ever seen. In styling and color it is prototypical Mid-Century 'industrial' aesthetic. It also one of the most curvaceous (i.e., sexy) typewriter body styles ever made, echoing that of a contemporary Studebaker automobile of the era. All steel construction of course. This Model 5 is definitely ready to 'make a statement', or two ;)

Interior mechanics are very clean and rust-free. A new ribbon has been installed and types beautifully (see alpha-numeric type sample). The keystroke is excellent on all keys with the nicely contoured keys making for a very satisfying typing experience.

Among the typewriter's features are a touch regulator to accommodate finger pressure, a rear panel dust-cover that flips down to access the margin sets (see photo) and a carriage lock for safe travel. The carriage lock is a little tricky to find, however(!)

COSMETIC CONDITION: Exceptionally nice in every regard--there are a very few tiny nicks to the paint finish. The decals are substantially intact and the gold lettering provides wonderful accents against the dark gunmetal.

The wood case shows a modest amount of exterior wear but is structurally very good condition. The internal 'feet' locks work properly keeping the typewriter safe during travel/transport. The carry handle and button latch works properly. **Always be sure the case lid and latch are fully engaged before transporting.
