This is the first coin of this denomination minted, the 1881 5 Lei.  Carol I ruled Romania as Prince (Domnul) from 1866 to 1881 and as King (Rege) from 1881 to 1914. This coin has Carol's likeness on one side and a crowned, draped, and supported (the lions) coat-of-arms on the other.  Apologies for the poor photography, very difficult to get the detail to show on a reflective silver surface.
