STUNNING 1981 SHOW FROM A NEWLY INSPIRED BANSHEES • By the
beginning of 1981, Siouxsie and The Banshees had released three albums
to date, and were planning their fourth. Recorded at Surrey Sound studio
with Nigel Gray as co-producer, Juju was released on 19 June ‘81.
Featuring new guitarist John McGeoch – formerly of Magazine – the album
met with much critical acclaim, notably for McGeoch’s un-orthodox
playing and Siouxsie’s ever-creative vocals. Later deemed a classic of
post-punk, in 1995, Melody Maker writer Cathi Unsworth described Juju as
"one of the most influential British albums ever". • The Banshees had
been performing cuts from the new record live since February ’81, and by
March they were in the full throes of a major UK and European tour.
Among the finest gig the band played during this jaunt was on 7th July,
when they headlined at De Nieuwe Kade, in Tiel, the Netherlands. •
Recorded for live radio broadcast across much of mainland Europe, the
show was a dynamic performance and is still remembered by many early
fans as a milestone event. This new CD now features this remarkable live
performance for the first time on CD. Bonus cuts here come from the
Banshees equally strong concert, a couple of months before while still
touring in the UK, when they played at Warwick University on 7th March
