Shekere Caxixi

This traditional instrument from Ghana is made using woven straw and a dried gourd segment. The colourful shakers have a great percussive sound and can be played by either shaking them on their sides or vertically, up and down. Artisans in the Bolgatanga region of Ghana handcraft these delightful African percussion instruments from stiff elephant grass, left natural or dyed in bright colors. A calabash gourd base keeps the rattling beans intact..
