Plant description

Jamaican pepper, English pepper, fragrant pepper, pimento, clove pepper, new roots - fruits of medical root - pimento tree (Pimenta dioica), serving as a spice, which, contrary to its name, does not come from England, but from Central America and Mexico. Traveling around Mexico in the years 1571–1577, Spanish scholar Francisco Hernandez claims that, along with vanilla, it was the Aztec's favorite spice and a chocolate drink. They were brought to Europe at the end of the 16th century, and became more widespread here only at the end of the 17th century.

Properties

- the active ingredient in allspice is eugenol, in addition there are: resin, tannins, sugar, malic acid and gallus acid

- allspice contains a lot of essential oils that give it an aromatic smell and a sharp, bitter taste, the smell is quite weak, a bit reminiscent of clove with the addition of a floral aroma

- allspice facilitates the absorption of selenium, B vitamins and beta-carotene.
