CRAB SPIDER or MATOUDOU - Chromolithograph by L. Prang & Co. - Selmar Hess Pub. NY.

This 130 + year old chromolithograph print is from the magazine "ANIMATE CREATIONS" by J.G. Wood.
It was published in 1885 by Selmar Hess in New York and the chromolithographs were by Prang & Co.
The print is fully attached to the larger page from the periodical magazine like a bookplate.  It is a full glue down and not hinged or tipped in plus the title name is printed on the page and not the print itself.

The print is in fair condition since it was caught in a folding accident in its past, the paper it is attached to has yellowed with age and has become semi- fragile.

Prints are UNFRAMED and I just barely attached them to the back boards of these new Mats that I lucked out on finding which actually prompted me to list this series of animal chromolithographs I have been sitting on for a few months.  The prints definitely look better with mats than without.

Measurements:

Mat is 11 x 14 inches.
Page is 10 x 13 inches.
Print is basically 5 x 8 inches. (I am listing quite a few of these prints and they range from 5 to 5.5 inches wide to 7.75 to 8.25 inches high - for ease of listing calling them 5x8 inches)
