ITEM IS SOLD AS IS AND PRICED TO SELL! ALSO SEE  OTHER THORENS KITS IN MY ITEMS FOR SALE!

This kit resolves the usual problems of hearing a "pop" upon switching on, record spinning in opposite direction and motor vibrations due to out of spec electronic components.

This is a good time to also service the tonearm cue lift mechanism, so a 2ml syringe of Silicone Oil for damping the turntable tonearm cue lift mechanism is also included in the kit. The stylus will then drop gently on to the record after cleaning with alcohol and renewing with some fresh silicone oil!

This is a popular kit (because of price, comparatively) but you need to read the description to understand why it is more expensive and justified and others have used it with great success! Thorens used the more expensive German made MKT 1813 phase change capacitors for a reason, as well as a high quality voltage dropper resistor so why change 2 of the most crucial electronic components that turn the record in the correct direction and reduce motor vibration for much cheaper substitutes? And one may argue that any disk capacitor will fit the bill for spark suppressor use across the switch, but a Class Y capacitor is designed to fail in open circuit mode so your turntable motor will not start to run unattended. I have based my kits on such high levels of reliability, functionality and safety!

This kit is generally used for 220 Volts AC Mains Voltage because it does  include the voltage dropping resistor required for 220 Volts AC operation. My Thorens run at 220 VAC so I do need the resistor in the photos! For 110 Volts ac operation, the resistor is not required or is bypassed if present. Buy the cheaper Kit3 or Kit4 for 110 volts operation because the resistor is not included in those kits.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ITEM IS FOR ONE TURNTABLE ONLY!  THESE ARE DROP IN REPLACEMENT PARTS. YOUR LOCAL REPAIR MAN OR REPAIR SHOP CAN INSTALL THE KIT IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH ELECTRONICS. Basically, there are at least 2 different  kits for the components usually found in these Thorens models. The service manual schematics do not give all the different component values Thorens used in the past!   It is imperative that you open your turntable and confirm the value of the capacitor and the resistor as well because any incorrect value will cause the record player to turn in the opposite sense ( that is wrong direction ) intermittently or vibrate tremendously! I have already made this mistake, so you have been forewarned! A ticking noise of the motor cannot be cured by simply using the correct kit, it is a different problem altogether and requires additional parts which are not covered by this basic kit.

Free shipping by registered mail is included in the price!

Very important information before you start: Do not try to unsolder the old parts because you will most likely damage the plastic tag board….just snip the old components off with a wire cutter and solder the new parts on top. It is a well documented fact that people have damaged tag boards and transformer windings by applying too much heat in an attempt to remove old components in vintage equipment. Also, you must use solder that contains lead otherwise the solder joints will NOT bond with the old solder! However, it is safe to desolder these components when they are on a PCB board!

The  photos showing my turntable parts is for illustration purposes only, as you will only get the correct 3 capacitors and 1 resistor! The photos show my record players before and after, with a full kit installed  maintaining the vintage/retro looks.

Also, check my other capacitor and resistor  kits for refurbishment or repair of the QUAD amplifier and THORENS turntables..

Important information: This kit#2 is only for the following because kit#1 has different component values:

One Spark or Arc suppression capacitor 0.0022uF in other words 2.2nF Metallized Paper Safety capacitor 300VAC for replacing the small coin shaped capacitor or the copper coloured capacitor with the same value. It is a  Y Class  suitable for use in the mains voltage line circuit across the switch, and would fail in open circuit mode without causing the motor to run unattended! If and when the old  capacitor fails, a popping noise can be heard upon switching on! This capacitor should solve the problem of loud popping noise upon switch on!The Class Y capacitor normally fails in open circuit mode, therefore it will not bypass the switch and start the motor! This is very important!

One 0.1uF that is 100nF plus another 0.047uF that is 47nF (Both capacitors in parallel give the required 0.15uF)  MKT 1813 400V Metalized Polyester Capacitor identical to the original MKT 1813 400V motor phase change capacitor. Because not all motors behaved the same way, the correct combination of this capacitor and the following resistor are required to reduce vibration as well as turn the motor in the correct direction!

One 10K Ohm 7 Watt High Quality Grade resistor for stability, reliability and use in harsh environments. This Welwyn Resistor acts as the 240 Volts to 120 Volts ac mains dropper. Using a wrong value resistor here will cause intermittent problems with spinning direction of the record!

This is a high quality kit consisting of quite expensive individual and identical or Safety Concious replacements (to the originals),  none of which are made in China!

As per photo, no instructions, no accessories and not boxed! These are surplus to my needs because I had to buy a decent quantity of them to compensate for shipping costs!
Item has been tested, so no returns!!!  Please look at photos before bidding!!

Returns not accepted, because item has been checked with a multimeter!

The photos showing my turntable parts is for illustration purposes only, as you will only get the relevant Capacitor & resistor kit!
